The clear winds and insect songs mark the beginning of October. The sizzle of a cast-iron skillet, the heavy iron scaffolding pipes hauled at my parents' house, audits on the codebase. Seven days crossing into autumn—moving hands and feet to restore rhythm to life.

The Sizzle of the Skillet, an Autumn Celebration Feast

The Honest Plate and the Earthy Depth of Whole Dried Sardines

Pan-seared lemon pepper chicken picked up at the local grocery, tossed with cubed potatoes, served alongside freshly steamed rice on a single plate. Running out of room for greens, I ended up scattering vegetables right across the top—a unpretentious Sunday meal. An unvarnished one-plate dinner cooked by a man's own hand is all the feast one truly needs.

The day before, I gently grilled large, sun-dried sardines on the mesh, continuing a string of quiet weekday dinners pairing pork offal or pork jowl with bean sprouts. The warm steam and rich aroma rising from the skillet loosen thoughts hardened by long hours staring into the glow of the display.

Cooked grocery-bought lemon pepper chicken and potatoes with rice on one plate, ran out of space for veggies, so dumped them over the top lol. Delicious nonetheless.

A Mother's Birthday: Steaming Kiritanpo and an Artist's Brush

An evening celebrating my mother's birthday at my parents' home. We gathered around a steaming pot of kiritanpo nabe, followed by an indulgent treat: a classic strawberry shortcake from Mutekiro—a rare delight, savored barely once a year.

Lately, I had been delegating almost all image generation to AI. On a whim, I picked up a physical brush for the first time in ages, sketching a quiet visual journal of the slice of cake. When you have a genuine reason to draw, the fingertips know how to move. A tactile memory carved into an ordinary milestone of life.

Lately I've been making AI draw everything, so I sketched by hand for the first time in forever. Even if not daily, maybe I'll pick up an illustrated diary routine again. Today was Mutekiro strawberry shortcake piggybacking on mom's birthday. Delicious.

Dismantling the Festival Tower and Lending a Hand to the Community

Following the cancellation of the local festival in Yokohama due to rain, I joined the teardown of the traditional wooden scaffolding tower. Stepping in for my father whose back had flared up, I spent an hour alongside twenty elders from the neighborhood association hauling steel pipes and heavy timber beams. I may not know how to handle an impact driver, but I can always offer physical labor.

Having lived away for over a decade, making acquaintances and gradually reweaving myself into the community feels vital. The cold canned beverage handed to me after sweating through the labor tasted like pure nourishment.

Today was dismantling the festival scaffolding tower in Yokohama. The festival itself got rained out last week, but around 20 neighborhood association uncles gathered and worked for an hour. I can't use impact drivers, so I carried steel pipes and square timber.

A 2mm Buzz Cut and Reviewing the Daily Kit

Took the electric clippers and gave myself a clean 2mm buzz cut. Considering the salon expenses saved, treating myself to a bottle of Aesop or Tamanohada shampoo is a sensible, subtractive luxury. The quiet herbal scent lingering in the washroom brings calm to the morning.

After waking up groggy and dropping my smartphone, cracking the screen, I seized the moment to switch back to an old folding phone, canceling unused shared data plans and dormant subscriptions. A quiet morning spent weeding out unnecessary noise from daily life.

Just realized: I self-cut my hair to a 2mm buzz, but use nice shampoo like Aesop or Tamanohada. Still, compared to going to a hair salon, it's a massive cost cut.

Fermenting Thought, Outlining the Dependable Neighbor

Reaffirming the Stance: Becoming the 'Dependable Neighbor'

With the rapid commoditization of generative AI, this week was an occasion to quietly reexamine my own role as an independent engineer and designer. In an era where anyone can prompt an instant answer, what remains irreplaceable is the human relationship on the other side of the glass.

“To be a dependable neighbor when a client faces trouble. Cherishing what is within arm's reach and walking distance.” Clarifying these words on my portfolio site cleared the fog. When the waves of technology threaten to overwhelm, folding laundry, washing dishes, and keeping feet firmly on the ground restores true depth of thought.

Being a dependable neighbor when a client is in need. Cherishing what is within arm's reach and within walking distance, I hope to continue supporting planning, design, and engineering. In this AI era where so much becomes commoditized, what stays immovable is ultimately the relationship with the client.

Beauty in the Details and Grounded Code Auditing

Stepping away from flashy AI demo trends, I quietly published 'zine.js' and 'matrix.js'—small libraries dedicated to fine kerning and print-like grid ratios on the web. Over the weekend, bringing in Opus 5.5 via Antigravity, Gemini and Claude cross-audited Kamos's codebase, respectfully surfacing edge cases and refactoring together.

Genuine human thought does not leap across chasms; it accumulates through patient iteration. The contours of this project, cultivated with care over the past year and a half, are quietly gaining depth and soul.

THREADS LOG 10/04 04:56
It's been about a year and a half on this project, and I never really get tired of it. It wasn't built strictly according to some grand upfront architecture, but it feels like it's maturing beautifully. 'Turning fleeting thoughts into concrete blueprints,' the tagline I wrote at the start of Kamos, feels like it has finally become reality.
