A week that began with an unexpected concussion. Finding solace in a quiet hot bath, kitchen stir-fries, and the familiar texture of tableware used for twenty years, I trace the contours of durable tools and a nimble, resilient life.

Stir-Frying Seasonal Fruit with Meat, Pausing for a Brew with Bizen Ware

Persimmon, Turnip, and the Aroma of White Wine in an Autumn Skillet

On a Sunday evening, I decided on a slightly adventurous menu. Pork seasoned with Setouchi lemon pepper, quickly stir-fried over high heat alongside diced persimmon, juicy turnips, and their vibrant green tops.

A splash of white wine swirled in at the end harmonized beautifully with the persimmon's natural sweetness and the pork's savory saltiness. It turned out so delicious I caught myself voicing admiration aloud—a truly fulfilling autumn table.

Incredible taste!!! Light salt stir-fry of pork seasoned with Setouchi lemon pepper, persimmon, turnip, and turnip greens, with an aroma of white wine. It's been a while since I ate something while muttering to myself, 'Pure genius!' lol.

Post-Bath Night Breeze and Coffee from Breathing Clay

After warming my chilled body in a hot bath, I pour steaming coffee into a Bizen ware cup. The clear night breeze wafting through the window feels delightful.

The rustic, coarse texture of unglazed clay gently conveys warmth into the palm of my hand. A single cup enjoyed from unpretentious craft quietly untangles the fatigue of daily life.

Chips Become Scenery: Tableware in Its Twentieth Year

A Shinjuku Solo Exhibition and an Early Sgraffito Vessel Still in Hand

I visited the exhibition of Pottery Studio Yu held at Kakiden Gallery in Shinjuku. Browsing the newly crafted soup bowls and African-patterned plates, I caught up with the artisan, Yosaku-san.

The sgraffito vessel with black slip that I first purchased from his workshop has been with me for nearly twenty years. Even the chipped rim has matured into the patina of lived-in vintage charm, making it an irreplaceable companion in daily life.

By the way, when I stopped by Pottery Studio Yu's exhibition the other day, I told Yosaku-san that I still use that first black sgraffito vessel I bought from him. He remarked, 'That's already a vintage piece.' With the chipped rim and worn edges, it truly does exude an authentic vintage air. I told him 10 years, but honestly, it’s closer to 20... Someday it might be recognized as an early masterpiece and end up in a museum, so I really can't afford to break it...

Flipping Through Old Magazines, Remembering the Muscle of Craftsmanship

I picked up an unread 2002 issue of relax magazine featuring design from my backlog stack. In an era when the Web was in its infancy and neither social media nor AI existed, the printed pages overflowed with pure formal beauty and raw passion.

Precisely because today's discourse revolves around efficiency and CVR, I feel the need to hold fast to that hard-earned graphic muscle and robust, unadorned aesthetic sensibility.

Yesterday at our reading group, we went through a design feature from a 2002 issue of relax, and it was fascinating. It was just on the cusp of the Web—no social media, apps, TikTok, and naturally no AI. Design meant graphics and products, and because of that, there felt like such a rich context. No CVR, Journey Maps, or Personas; what was cool was simply cool. It made me wonder whether our aesthetic sensibility—our design muscle—has atrophied.

Resting the Body, Moving Toward Simple and Nimble Architecture

Contact Sports in One's Forties and Quiet Convalescence

After an unexpected collision during weekend sports, I had an MRI at a neurosurgery clinic just to be safe. Fortunately, there were no abnormalities, and I breathed a sigh of relief at the diagnosis of a mild concussion.

Accepting candidly that I have reached an age where pushing through isn't an option, I adjusted my workload, soaked in the bath, and took time to listen closely to my body.

Went to the neurosurgery clinic first thing this morning. Felt like I got a concussion yesterday, and living alone as a bachelor, if something happens I'm on my own, so decided to get checked out. Searched online and went to a clinic village nearby; arrived at 10:00 and didn't finish until after 14:00. Had an MRI for the first time in years—clear, so diagnosis is a mild concussion. Doctor said to avoid exercise for a bit and observe. Ended up costing around 9,000 yen... At any rate, glad to have peace of mind.

Stripping Away Complexity: A Lightweight, Self-Built System

Facing the turbulent waves of widely publicized vulnerabilities and security concerns, I integrated a lightweight WAF named 'Kamos Blue Impulse' into my personal agent and evacuated the site into a static structure.

Letting go of excessive dependencies lurking behind convenience, surviving with agile lightness through minimal, essential tools—the intuition honed across twenty years of freelance life serves as a quiet, steady strength.

[Built a lightweight WAF for Kamos! Kamos Blue Impulse!] Last night seemed chaotic with PHP vulnerabilities making headlines all the way up to the Prime Minister. Noticing how frequent security incidents have become lately, I built a security safeguard mechanism for Kamos. Named it Kamos Blue Impulse. It's a lightweight WAF where, upon detecting anomalies, AI assesses the situation and blocks access from specific IPs.
